Distinctively Paint

Your Cabinet Painters

The Wikipedia of Painted Cabinets

Cabinet Painting isn’t like any ordinary painting.  It’s far more technical and complex.  We know you have questions:

  • How much does it cost?
  • What products should be used?
  • What should the process look like?
  • How do I choose my cabinet painter?

Cabinet painters require a much more in-depth technical knowledge of industrial products and a higher skill set for spraying lacquers and industrial waterborne products.

We built this site to help you navigate the world of cabinet painting and provide answers to your many questions.

We take great pride in providing a service that will refresh and renew our client’s cabinets, homes and working spaces – with efficiency, cleanliness, affordability and unmatched respect.

Yes, of course we hope you hire us for your project.  But if you don’t, it’s important to us that you have the information you need to choose your painter wisely.

Meet the Team

Calla Mitchell

Owner
Calla launched Distinctively Paint way back in 1998. Her love of all things renovation and her study of business at Dalhousie University combined into a passion for the construction industry.

“Paint is the magic wand you can pass over a space and make it updated, fresh and new again!” she says. While quality work is never cheap, you can still get more bang for your buck by painting your space than just about anything else you could think of.

“I just love being a cabinet painter – I love that I can give a client a new kitchen with out the expense and hassle of ripping it out and starting over. Not only does the client save thousands, the environment saves a perfectly solid set of cabinets ending up in the landfill – that’s a win/win.”

Wyatt Hoyteniuk

Spray Booth Leader & Videographer
Wyatt has the beautiful combination of an engineers brain and the heart of an artist. His ability to combine science and art make him the perfect choice to lead both the technical side of the spray booth and the more creative aspect of videography.

Wyatt’s greatest skill is his willingness and ability to figure it out and find solutions when none are apparent.

Karl Rodier

Field Leader
Karl is a career painter – he’s been painting for 20 years. His extensive knowledge of paint, spray systems, and process makes him an excellent choice for our Field Leader. Karl has been instrumental in designing the systems and processes that we use everyday in our clients homes. He’s a relentless tester of new product and systems, and a total stickler for details.

Brennan Matthies

Content Manager & Installer
Brennan started with us as a painters prepper, then became a painter, and then moved into the role of installer. His amazing patience and attention to detail makes him the perfect fit for installing our cabinet doors after they’ve been painted.

More recently, we discovered Brennan’s ability to write. (We should have guessed given the insane amount of writing he had to do to earn his Poly Sci degree!) His ability to write, his lovely empathic nature and listening skills, combined with the technical knowledge gained through multiple promotions working in the field made him a natural fit as content manager. Many of the articles written on this site are compliments of Brennan’s many hours imparting his knowledge to the world wide web.

Our Purpose as Cabinet Painters

‘We make good things better’, is our internal tag line. It’s the line that governs who we are and why we do what we do. It’s the anchor for our decisions and the motivation around our policies.

It’s about homes

Being a cabinet painter is the coolest job in the world.  Making a boring home interesting, a dull home bright, a dated home current and fresh. This is our jam. It’s what gets us out of bed in the morning. It’s what keeps us going when the 8 hour day has come and gone and there is still paint to put away and prep to remove.

It’s about our people

Internally, it’s about training, learning from each other, seeking new skillsets and constantly building our repertoire in an effort to be better cabinet painters, every day. It’s about leadership and empowering each and every staff member to make decisions that result in an outcome that is a little bit better and the experience just a little more enjoyable.

It's For our clients

It’s about communication. Making sure clients are kept in the loop at all times and never have to guess about what’s happening next. It’s about quality work and cleanliness – making sure that when we are done, we’re done. It’s about respect – for each other, for our clients and for the craft and responsibility of being a cabinet painter in the city of Calgary.
